Important information:

Each applicant must register here and participate with a costume depicting a character from anime & manga, comics, cartoons, films, TV series, or video games. Participation is only possible individually and not as a group. Since there are limited places, the decision to participate in the competition will be based on the application materials (description and pictures of the costume). We will award a prize for craftsmanship, which will be evaluated in a personal preliminary assessment by our expert jury and then presented on stage in the form of a walk-on performance.

    RULES AND CONDITIONS

    All participants require a valid ticket for Austria Comic Con on the day of the event (Sunday or weekend ticket)

    All participants must be 15 years or older.

    I agree to the use of pictures, video recordings and similar material of my costume by Con World Austria for future promotional activities.

    It is not possible to register multiple times with different costumes.

    The written description submitted will serve as information for the presenter during the on-stage performance. It should describe the costume’s details and/ or include information about the manufacturing process, materials, or other details that might impress fans. Con World Austria reserves the right to edit this description in terms of length and content.

    Con World Austria reserves the right to publish the photos submitted for the application on the ACC website and/or social media pages, or to display them on stage during the performance. All participants are responsible for obtaining permission from the photographer for this publication and/or presentation.

    All participants must appear fully costumed for the preliminary judging on the day of the contest. Failure to appear will result in disqualification.

    You are welcome to bring additional reference detail photos and work-in-progress images. Electronic media (e.g., CDs), laptops, and video players are not accepted.

    Costumes may not promote the following: alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, weapons, or political programs.

    Costumes must not be obscene, discriminatory or offensive and must not advocate any form of hate or hate groups.

    Costumes must not represent or be any violation of the law.

    Costumes must not be too revealing in order to be suitable for public viewing and tasteful for a family-friendly event.

    Inline skates, scooters, skateboards and roller skates are not permitted on the exhibition grounds.

    Some parts of the costume (e.g. tights, wig or shoes) may be made from purchased ready-made products, but at least 60% of the costume should be homemade.

    There is no limit on the size of costumes or props. However, special care and attention should be taken when handling them during the performance and on the convention grounds, as participants are liable for ANY damage caused to the stage, lighting, etc., trade show property, and the property of others.

    Weapon-shaped props made of cardboard, foam, polystyrene, plastic (e.g., Worbla or Cosplayflex), soft wood, or other lightweight materials are permitted. Bows are permitted as props, provided they have a bowstring. Bows are permitted as props, provided they do not have a functioning bowstring. All arrows must have soft tips.

    The following items are generally prohibited at the con:

    • Functional firearms (air rifles, pistols and gas pistols)
    • Functional projectile weapons (including blowguns, crossbows, bows and arrows, streamer spray, slingshots, water balloons, and water pistols)
    • Weapons with sharpened metal blades (including axes, daggers, knives, kunai, shuriken, swords, rapier canes, and switchblades)
    • Explosives (including firecrackers and fireworks)
    • Chemical weapons and personal defense weapons (including CS gas, pepper spray, and electric shock devices)
    • Blunt weapons (including brass knuckles, clubs/batons, maces/hammers, morning stars, and nunchucks)
    • Instruments that cause excessive noise, such as vuvuzelas

    Furthermore, the general weapons regulations must also be observed. All participants with props must report to the weapons check as soon as possible after arriving at the convention!

    Limitation of Liability – CWA is not liable for

    False or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, typographical or printing errors, or by equipment or software used in connection with the Contest.

    Technical defects of any kind.

    Any personal injury or financial loss caused directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by a person’s participation in the competition or by the use of the prize or by its misuse, unless otherwise provided by law.

    Participants undertake to indemnify and hold CWA harmless against all claims by third parties arising from their participation in the competition as well as from preparatory or post-processing work (gross negligence and willful intent on the part of CWA are excluded).

    All participants are responsible for their own belongings. We recommend bringing a companion to look after any belongings.

    Prizes won cannot be redeemed for cash. Legal recourse is excluded.

    Participants may be disqualified for non-compliance with the rules. Decisions in this regard are final.

    CWA reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Contest if fraud, technical failure, force majeure, or any other factor beyond CWA’s control compromises the integrity or proper conduct of the Contest.

    This contract is governed by Austrian law, excluding its conflict of law provisions.
